What is mindfulness?
Lets talk about Mindfulness. This is a word we are hearing about more and more but what does it actually mean?⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“[Mindfulness is] the practice of being aware of your body, mind, and feelings in the present moment, thought to create a feeling of calm.”⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What can Mindfulness look like in the day to day?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are 3 really simple mindfulness activities that you can do anytime, anywhere.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Single-tasking
We are all so good at doing 10 things at once. Try slowing down and doing one task at a time. If you are working on something at the computer, focus on just that task. Even try closing all the other tabs so you’re not tempted to do 5 tasks at once.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Mindful eating
Meal times can become a way we can practice mindfulness. Eat slowly, savoring each bite. Be aware if the flavors and smells you are sensing. Turn off the TV or put your phone away while you are eating.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Breathing
Sit down for one minute (or more) and practice some mindful breathing. Hold each breath for a moment before releasing. Notice the sounds around you, how your body is feeling and just be in the present moment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀What are your favourite Mindfulness activities? Let us know in the comments below.
